Biodata IT, local distributor of Astaro network security appliances, announces that Astaro has been named one of the Top 20 Companies to Watch in 2009, by Linux Magazine.
This list features vendors that are best positioned in the coming year to spur Linux and open source adoption while delivering on the immediate needs of the marketplace.
"We are honoured to again be named to Linux Magazine's top companies to watch," stated Jan Hichert, Astaro CEO. "We are committed to advancing the Linux platform through development aid and efforts, as it has allowed us to create the successful product lines that we have available today."
In 2008, Astaro was recognised as the ninth most active employer for change-sets produced in the Linux 2.6.25 release, according to research published by the Linux Foundation. Developer Patrick McHardy was ranked the second most active developer by change-sets and 12th by the total number of changed lines. He is currently the chairman of the Netfilter (a Linux kernel subsystem) core team, which Astaro has sponsored since 2002, along with several other open source projects.
"Astaro products are built on a hardened Linux platform, providing them with the stability and reliability inherent in this successful open source project," explains Bryan Richard, Editor-in-Chief of Linux Magazine. "We are eager to see Astaro's development progress throughout this coming year."
