Astaro launches first anti-spyware firewall

Biodata IT, local distributor of Astaro Germany, announces that Linux specialist Astaro AG has rolled out a product on any operating system to combine network firewall protection with an anti-spyware gateway, blocking both incoming spyware, adware and other malicious applications, as well as preventing spyware from sending confidential information outside the enterprise.

Chris Runte, a director of Biodata IT, explains: "A plethora of desktop anti-spyware tools is already available but, unlike desktop offerings, Astaro`s inbound filtering prevents spyware from getting beyond the firewall. In addition to this inbound network filtering, the product also provides outbound filtering, for interception of outbound spyware.

"There is a great amount of interest in the anti-spyware issue," he adds. "IT departments have been spending endless hours trying to clean up spyware off desktops."

Desktop anti-spyware products help address the problem, but they are difficult to manage and provide only partial spyware protection - de-installing detected spyware that already made its way to the system. Astaro Security Linux 5.2 includes a full anti-spyware package protecting enterprises from malware, adware and other malicious applications - before they reach an end-user computer.

Astaro`s security technology inserts protection against spyware at the gateway between the Internet and an enterprise`s internal networks. This means that spyware and adware software can be blocked before it enters the organisation and infects computers. Messages from spyware applications inside the organisation are intercepted before they can reach the Internet and the spyware writer`s Web site. Astaro`s Spyware Protection can be easily enabled or disabled from their WebAdmin interface.
