Astaro Mail Gateway, the SME e-mail security appliance, is launched

Astaro Mail Gateway meets the e-mail security needs of many small and medium-sized enterprises.

Biodata IT, local distributor of Astaro, is convinced that especially SMEs will benefit from the AMG, since they will now be able to protect e-mail traffic just as effectively, simply, and quickly as large corporations. The AMG includes protection against viruses, spam, and phishing, as well as e-mail encryption and simple Active Directory / eDirectory integration.

In addition to industry-standard spam recognition technologies such as RBL lists, BATV and greylisting, the patented reputation-based filtering function now considerably bolsters spam recognition while eliminating false positives for personal e-mails. Dual virus scanners block both known and previously unknown malware and viruses in SMTP and POP3 e-mail traffic. This reduces the system's response time for new viruses, since the scanners each receive virus definition updates independently. Phishing attacks are also reliably controlled.

E-mail encryption ensures that confidential e-mails can no longer be accidentally sent as plain text over the Internet. Users retain full control over encryption processes, which run on the gateway and utilise recognised standards such as S/MIME, OpenPGP and TLS. This makes it possible to scan encrypted e-mails for malware, attachments and all. Thanks to the remote exchange access feature, today's mobile users can utilise a secure SSL/VPN connection to access their Microsoft Exchange inbox with an Outlook client from any location, without needing a Webmail client such as OWA.

The AMG also includes a Web-based user portal that is available in 15 languages. The portal allows users to manage their individual spam quarantines and view the status of each individual e-mail. In combination with daily e-mail reports, the portal makes managing e-mail securely considerably easier.

The features described here apply to the entire AMG product family, the AMG1000, AMG2000, AMG3000 and AMG4000. The AMG3000 and AMG4000 also provide active clustering, which dynamically balances loads between up to 10 appliances.
