Astore Africa (Pty) Ltd has, with the help of its IT partner and national network solutions provider Integr8 IT, implemented anti-spam software and Computer Associates` (CA) e-Trust Pestpatrol anti-spyware solution to shield its corporate network from spam.
Astore is a leading supplier of a comprehensive range of thermoplastic pipe fittings, valves and pipeline accessories for the southern Africa market.
Zita Opperman, IT logistics Manager, says the company approached Integr8 IT for help after having its corporate network significantly slowed down by unsolicited e-mail.
"We were compelled to do something about the level of unsolicited e-mails affecting the network. There were also instances of pop-up mails with pornographic content on desktops," says Opperman. "Integr8 IT is our IT services partner and implemented its own anti-spam software solution together with Pestpatrol over a 24-hour period at our head office. The result is that we now have a secure network running nationally throughout the company, one that is significantly more protected against external threats."
Integr8 IT has enjoyed a long-term relationship with Astore Africa and has in place a service level agreement with the company to provide network support and services, including hardware and software.
Although it is too early to quantify the results of the implementation, Opperman agrees that in terms of practical day-to-day operations, it certainly has made a difference.
"There is no doubt at all that companies now have to adopt a far more vigilant attitude as far as network security is concerned," explains Gary Miller, Account Manager at Integr8 IT. "The combination of these software solutions covers the network entirely and will provide the necessary protection against spam. This problem is definitely not new and the level of development and sophistication that is now being implemented into viruses and worms is such that big business and trade can seriously be affected. Companies cannot afford to take a chance."
