Motherboard manufacturer, ASUS has announced the release of the P4B motherboard for Socket 478 Pentium 4 processors, available in SA through distributor Memtek-MMW.

The ASUS P4B, leveraging the Intel 845 chipset, lets users take advantage of Pentium 4 technology while using mainstream PC133 SDRAM. According to Gary Naidoo, product manager at Memtek-MMW, the benefits of the P4B and Intel Pentium 4 include enhanced multimedia, Internet and gaming.

"Supporting socket 478 Pentium 4 processors beyond 2.0GHz and up to 3GB of SDRAM, the P4B offers a highly expandable platform," he says.

"The P4B incorporates for the first time, a number of new features for motherboards," he explains. "An onboard speech IC chip and ASUS POST Reporter provide clear explanations of system errors for fast optimisation, while ASUS MyLogo personalises your system with customisable boot logos."

Also included is an ASUS EZ Plug power connector that eliminates the need to buy an ATX 12V power supply to support the P4 CPU, as well as advanced media support for SmartCards, SD and Memory Stick. For audiophiles, an S/PDIF-out interface enables convenient connection to 5.1 speaker systems for theatre-like audio experiences.

The P4B is expandable with six standard PCI interfaces and connections for up to four USB ports. A CNR interface supports software modem or audio technologies via a modem/audio riser card, while an AGP4X slot supports advanced graphics cards.
