@lantic Internet Services - acquired by AltX-listed telco, DataPro, for R45 million last year - is on its own acquisition trail, announcing that it recently acquired Bloemfontein-based ISP, MJVNET, for an undisclosed sum. The transaction sees the company boost its user base by 1 285.
@lantic is the country's largest consumer-focused ISP, currently boasting more than 40 000 clients.
The franchise-focused business operates with more than 200 franchise outlets scattered throughout SA, with many located in small towns and cities - as well as having the added backup of a dealer network of more than 900.
Dederick Venter, marketing director at @lantic, said the company - which operates autonomously from its parent company - is "on a major acquisition drive". "There is going to be a lot of consolidation in the ISP market space and we are in the process of beefing up to become one of the largest ISPs in the country. MJVNET is the first of many acquisitions we will be looking at. We intend to grow organically via our growing number of franchise outlets - but will accelerate this growth further via acquisitions."
He said the integration of the MJVNET customer base has already been "bedded down".
"It has been a very successful integration process. Whereas MJVNET clients were serviced through a head office in Bloemfontein, we are able to offer centralised services via our Pretoria head office, as well as providing services to our new clients via our franchise outlets throughout the country. We have a large national footprint.
"In addition, our new clients have access to a wider range of products and services, including solutions such as 3G, iBurst, Sentech and ADSL 'pay as you go' - a service offering we introduced in 2005."
