ATIO challenges call centres to aid CANSA Shavathon

Johannesburg, 27 Sep 2005

The ATIO Corporation has launched a competition to support the CANSA Shavathon fundraising drive in November, with a prize worth over R10 000 for the winning agents.

Call centre companies are being challenged to donate the time of two top agents to work in the ATIO-sponsored CANSA call centre, raising awareness of the Shavathon.

The Shavathon aims to raise R10 million for cancer awareness, research and CANSA`s community services, which include a toll-free information service, counselling, day-care centres, interim homes and volunteer services. This national event will take place on Friday, 4 November, for schools and companies and Saturday, 5 November, for families and individuals.

The call centre agent who signs up the most companies for the Shavathon will win an all-expenses-paid trip to Cape Town for two, including return flights, three nights` accommodation and breakfast at the five-star Bay Hotel in Camps Bay, four days` car hire with free kilometres per day and R4 000 spending money.

ATIO has sponsored the call centre from which the Shavathon campaign will be run, including setting up all the infrastructure as well as training volunteer call agents and providing technical support.

"This is a significantly improved call centre which can handle much bigger call volumes and will enable more effective fundraising," says ATIO marketing director Nicholas Maweni. "We believe in real and ongoing community involvement and are proud to be using our specialist skills and technology to help CANSA improve its fundraising ability and long-term sustainability."
