Atio Corporation, a specialist ICT solutions and services company, has contributed towards building three additional classrooms at the Dr Beyers Naud'e Secondary School in Soweto.

In lieu of Christmas gifts to clients and partners, Atio notified them of the donation and sent out 400 greeting cards hand-drawn by pupils at the school.

Atio marketing director Adri Kilian says one of the reasons why the school received the donation is the enthusiasm and passion its pupils showed during a cultural performance held during an earlier visit.

"A lot of the students produce exceptional results with limited resources," says Kilian

"We saw that the school needed some improvements. On our last visit to the school, we saw some children being taught under a tree and realised that the school did not have enough infrastructure," she says.

The building of the three new classrooms will be finalised early next year.

"In the meantime we will set up the IT infrastructure in one of the classrooms to train the students on computer skills, to help the students to matriculate with basic computer skills," says Kilian.

Atio is also involved in other social responsibility programmes like the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA). "We are also involved with different NGOs (nongovernmental organisations) who are in great need of call centres", says Kilian.
