Atos Origin, an international IT services company, today announced it has completed the first phase of its Billing Internship programme, with huge success.
In April 2008 a local initiative was undertaken by Atos Origin in South Africa to start up an internship programme, especially for the area of billing. With the aim being to contribute to South Africa's drive to solve a national skills shortage, a 12-month internship programme was designed.
Out of the 23 applicants, 10 interns with little or no work experience were selected. During the programme, three-month periods of hands-on work placements are being combined with intensive two to four weeks of training sessions, followed by appropriate exams. These exams consist of relevant industry certified ones, in addition to those specially created by experienced Atos Origin South Africa billing team heads.
On 22 July 2008, the 10 interns sat their first Oracle BRM Certified Developer exams, and we are proud to announce all 10 of our interns have passed.
Atos Origin in South Africa congratulates:
Nare Hopane - 90%
Siphesihle Mchunu - 89%
Letlotlo Miffi - 84%

Mpho Nyombane - 96%
Kegomoditswe Ramosotho - 96%

Atos Origin in South Africa will offer its interns full-time jobs only on the successful completion of the 12-month programme.
The Programme Co-ordinator and Principal Architect Yulian Baker comments: "I congratulate our interns for not only passing these very hard exams, but for passing them with amazing grades! All 10 of them have put their minds and their hearts into the programme and I must say I am proud of every one of them. I would like to thank Martin Cronje and Daniel Acton for their significant contributions to the programme, and the Atos Origin South Africa management for giving their invaluable support."
Alain M Michel, Atos Origin South Africa CEO, also the person to come up with this idea in the first place, comments: " A shortage of skills is South African companies' most pressing concern, but few invest in employee training. As Atos Origin in South Africa, we believe we can help improve the current shortage of skilled labour by taking the responsibility and the lead, to search for ways to improve skills. I am pleased we are able to contribute and thank my team for their dedication. I am looking forward to having these young bright ladies and gentlemen on board Atos Origin South Africa."
