Seattle, 5 September 2007 - Attachmate Corporation today announced its acceptance to the IBM SOA Specialty after successfully completing IBM's rigorous service-oriented architecture (SOA) technical and business requirements.
With this achievement, Attachmate Verastream products, a comprehensive suite of mainframe, desktop and Web-based integration offerings, integrate with the IBM software and strategy for SOA.
"SOA is an increasingly important business requirement for organisations because of the business flexibility it enables," said Sandy Carter, vice-president of IBM SOA and WebSphere.
"Through its continued investment in SOA-based mainframe integration, Attachmate is providing its customers with a powerful way to reduce integration costs while taking full advantage of their legacy assets as they move to embrace new technology platforms."
Attachmate Verastream software enables the full range of legacy applications to participate in today's SOAs by exposing business processes as Web services, XML, Java, and .NET components that can be mixed, matched, and reused. No changes to mainframe-application code are required.
Verastream applications help companies move into the SOA business era faster by allowing them to leverage their existing development skills, familiar IT tools and proven mainframe investments. And, by offering enhanced flexibility for new Web-based user interfaces, as well as support for the latest Java application infrastructure standards, the Verastream products enable organisations to fully leverage their legacy applications in an SOA environment to drive business productivity and lower IT costs.
"Attachmate Verastream software provides customers with a low-cost, low-risk way to leverage their valuable legacy assets in modern IT infrastructures," said Eric Varness, vice-president of marketing at Attachmate.
"Attachmate's acceptance into the IBM SOA Specialty underscores our ongoing dedication to providing comprehensive solutions for SOA-based integration, and assures our customers that Verastream tools can deliver the value of SOA to their IBM environments."
Further demonstrating its commitment to helping customers leverage the full power of the IBM mainframe, Attachmate will share best practices for reusing host data and business processes from business-critical CICS applications through a 19 September webinar, "Service-enabling CICS Applications: Best Practices".
The sixth in a seven-part series aimed at helping organisations increase revenue and reduce costs by re-using their legacy assets, this session will focus specifically on how IBM customers in the financial services, insurance and retail industries can transform their business-critical CICS functionality into reusable services that can be leveraged in new SOA application development or integration projects.
