Attachmate celebrates new investment in SA

Johannesburg, 24 Feb 2000

Expanding its business investment in South Africa, Attachmate has launched a new division to address business opportunities for consulting solutions that previously relied on resources from overseas.

Recently having joined Attachmate SA, Jenny Hoggarth has been responsible for the creation of the division locally and will grow the e-business consulting arm within the company`s existing product base.

In addition to regular technical product consulting and training, Attachmate Consulting Services will be assisting clients with Web enabling their host applications. "Many companies are looking to re-host or rebuild their key legacy systems to become Web-enabled.

"Our solutions ensure immediate access to existing systems with a rapid time to market, allowing companies to remain competitive or, even, be immediately up-and-running on the Web while rebuilding older systems," says Hoggarth.

The division will focus largely on enabling self- applications for use within big organisations, or their partners and customers, with direct access from the Web to customer`s host and legacy systems.

Hoggarth adds that while e-business has become standard, mobile business is just taking off. "Our technologies allow legacy systems to talk directly with mobile devices and this will also be a major focus for us," she says.

All consultants are trained in the latest integration and front-end techniques and languages. Attachmate`s products are able to integrate any mainframe or midrange machines to the Web or mobile devices such as PalmPilots or Web and wireless phones.

"We believe in a business-oriented approach to consulting and are looking to help our clients squeeze everything out of their existing investments to improve their computing ROI without major new development and the cost and risk that goes along with it," says Hoggarth.

"Quality and time to market will be the critical success factors we apply to our consulting business."

Risk will be shared with customers through the supply of fixed-price consulting solutions, extending business in SA with local specialist consultants who will become part of the worldwide resource pool for Attachmate.

"Locally, the team will be kept small and manoeuvrable so as best to meet customers` specific e-business needs, from small mainframe screen rejuvenation projects to major self-service Web or wireless applications for our clients," says Hoggarth.

"Our philosophy is to use market-specific experts for projects wherever possible; client projects will be undertaken by the best available resource in the skills pool, no matter where in Attachmate those might be based. We are delighted to be building part of that `resource pool` in South Africa," she concludes.
