Attachmate launches MobileNow strategy to address enterprise application needs

Attachmate's platform delivers critical business applications anywhere, on any device.

Seattle, 23 Jan 2013

Attachmate Corporation today announced its mobile strategy and solution platform, Attachmate MobileNow, offering secure and manageable access to business information from any mobile device. Attachmate MobileNow optimises the delivery of corporate data while providing tools for encrypting data, controlling access and monitoring for fraudulent use.

"Organisations expect to derive real value from their investment in enterprise mobile devices, especially tablets," said Tom Bice, vice-president of marketing and product management at Attachmate. "These devices are only as valuable as the apps and data they can access. What makes Attachmate's approach unique and compelling is the fact that critical mainframe and legacy applications don't need to be re-factored for mobile. This means quicker time-to-market and lower costs."

With this strategic approach, Attachmate continues to deliver on its mission to extend, manage and secure business information from trusted platforms to new devices - iPads, Windows 8 tablets and Android tablets, as well as smartphones. Attachmate MobileNow provides a layer of user interactions and customisation utilising HTML5 and native technologies that optimise business applications for mobile devices, therefore enabling increased adoption and productivity.

"Mobility increases the need for access to enterprise applications," said Dale Vecchio, research vice-president at Gartner. "The ability to optimise or modernise existing mainframe and legacy applications for use with mobile devices is a quick way to tackle this challenge and is worthy of consideration. In their quest to modernise and derive greater value from existing investments, enterprises should adopt a number of best practices, including these recommendations: Leverage the relationships between installed applications and existing business processes, and build business cases based on cost elimination and business process improvement."

In support of its mobility strategy, Attachmate today announced a new version of Verastream Host Integrator that optimises mainframe applications and provides legacy modernisation tools for mobile devices. Expect additional Attachmate MobileNow announcements and updates in 2013.
