Novell has announced a special ZENworks Starter Pack and ZENworks for Desktops 2 (ZfD 2) promotion for all its CLA (Corporate Licence Agreement) and VLA (Volume Licence Agreement) customers.
"ZENworks Starter Pack and ZfD 2 customers may now order ZENworks for Desktops 3.2 at 20% off the upgrade price and Full Term Upgrade protection price," says distribution manager Recia Latief. "This brings the price of ZENworks for Desktops 3.2 and Full Term Upgrade protection from $81 to $43 for ZENworks Starter Pack customers, a saving of no less than 47%.
"Customers may purchase ZfD 3.2 licences and Full Term Upgrade protection up to the same number of ZENworks Starter pack or ZfD 2 licences they are currently using," she continues. "The number of licences purchased may not exceed the number of NetWare licences they own."
Latief points out that customers must order an equal number of upgrade and Full Term Upgrade protection licences to be eligible for the promotion.
This promotion applies to the purchase of first-time ZfD 3.2 licences and to the upgrade of ZENworks Starter Pack and Zfd 2 licences not under upgrade protection. "It cannot be used to add incremental licences to existing ZENworks for Desktop 3.2 pools," Latief notes.
ZENworks for Desktops 3.2 is a policy-based management tool that simplifies network administration by leveraging the directory to automate and streamline software distribution, software repair, desktop configuration, remote management and enterprise workstation operation system imaging.
The product offers several features above those of ZENworks Starter Pack and ZENworks for Desktops 2:
. Support for Windows 2000 professional and Windows XP workstations;
. Support for Netware 6 and Windows NT;
. Workstation OS imaging;
. Remote control, remote diagnostic tools;
. Full hardware and software inventory and reporting;
. Support for mobile laptop users;
. Advanced management of Windows 2000 professional and Windows XP professional workstations via Microsoft Group Policy without requiring Active Directory or Windows 2000 server; and
. Full support for Microsoft Installer (MSI) applications such as Office XP.
New CLA policy
Novell has announced a new policy under its CLA renewal scheme, which requires all customers to submit a self-audit when renewing their contracts.
"In future, no CLA contracts will be renewed without a self-audit," declares Latief. "Failure to submit one means customers will not be able to place orders and will effectively be running illegal software."
How to receive the Novell Support Connection and Evaluation Library Prime CLA customers who purchase $25 000 worth of software and services over 12 months may now subscribe to a free copy of the annual NSEL (Novell Software Evaluation Library) or the NSCCD (Novell Support Connection CD). Customers who spend $50 000 or more may subscribe to both products at no cost.
"Customers wishing to renew their annual subscription must send an e-mail to subscription@novell.com, stating their full name, current CLA number, company name and address and product," says Latief. "Customers who don`t qualify for the free subscription can place an order with their Novell-approved reseller, and receive a discount off the retail price."
The NSEL and NSCCD provide several valuable benefits. "With the Software Evaluation Library (updated six to eight times a year) customers automatically receive evaluation versions of the latest release of Novell`s shipping products, Beta and EAR (Early Access Release) versions in one package," says Latief. "The NSCCD provides speedy access to a wide range of technical information such as Technical Information Documents (TIDs), patches, Novell AppNotes, product documentation, Cool Solutions, Novell Connection magazine articles, and more.
"The NSEL also affords a glimpse into future by enabling customers to see where Novell is taking key technologies," she continues. "By viewing our software early, you can provide us with feedback, helping to change or confirm the direction we are taking."
The beauty of the NSCCD is its portability. According to Latief, customers can either install it on their computer or take it with them wherever they go. "When an Internet connection is unavailable, or if a bad connection on site makes troubleshooting difficult, customers can still access the information you need. The CD is organised with multiple views into the information to help customers find answers easily, while the powerful search engine finds solutions rapidly.
"The NSCCD is sent to customers each month to keep them up-to-date. A subscription also includes additional CDs like the Consolidated Support Pack. This benefit alone can save customers up to $220 per year."
Customers can also look forward to a new subscriber portal which is coming online soon. "Through the portal they will be able to manage their subscription, receive updates and search information online," Latief concludes.
