Following the establishment of its online auction web-site last year through leading ISP (Internet Service Provider), Data Pro Business Online, premier auctioneer, AucorActive, has set a world record by selling a bottle of Moet et Chandon champagne online for R130 000 in aid of the CC Africa Foundation.
This was confirmed by Craig Levy, operations director at Data Pro Business Online, part of the JSE-listed Control Instruments group. Levy said the funds will go towards CC Africa Foundation, a non-profit foundation dedicated to sustainable development in rural areas of five African countries.
Levy said it is believed that the R130 000 is the highest figure ever paid for a bottle of champagne online.
A second bottle of champagne was later auctioned at a live auction conducted by Aucor at a special charity benefit hosted by Moet et Chandon, with this bottle selling for R135 000 to Daimler Chrysler.
Aucor has thus far invested several million in setting up and developing its auctioneering web-site since its initial investment of R2 million during the second quarter of 1999.
