JSE-listed MTN has appointed Shauket Fakie to head up its business risk management division.
Fakie will join the cellular company by 1 January 2007 as group executive of business risk management. He was appointed auditor-general in 1999 by president Thabo Mbeki.
"We are delighted to have someone of the calibre and experience of Shauket Fakie to be responsible for the management of business risk across the group," says CEO Phuthuma Nhleko.
"MTN`s operations have a widespread and deep impact on the economies of the 21 countries in which we operate. We believe that Fakie`s experience and the respect for his achievements in SA and across the globe will be invaluable to our business."
Fakie has served on various committees including the Western Cape Society of Chartered Accountants and the Education Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. He is also an active participant with the Association for the Advancement of Black Accountants in Southern Africa and serves on various sub-committees of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and Public Accountants and Auditors Board.
