At the beginning of April 2007 FLUX, in collaboration with LexisNexis Butterworths, launched an Occupational Health and Safety Act auditing application called 'Auditor in a Box'.
Why legal compliance?
'Occupational Health and Safety' in general has come to the fore in South Africa, especially with the Department of Labour placing greater emphasis thereon and implementing large resources to police the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Act 85 of 1993.
Ignorance of this legislation is no excuse, and yet, the level of adherence throughout South Africa is not very high. Compliance to the legislation is not optional and it is imperative for all companies to comply with the Act.
Intention
'Auditor in a Box' aka BOHSS (LexisNexis Butterworths Occupational Health and Safety System) want to provide companies with a tool to facilitate legal compliance in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, which can be regarded as being reasonably practicable. The intention is to ensure that should incidents occur, or inspections by the Department of Labour take place, these companies will be seen to have acted reasonably in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Over and above these aspects, it will make the workplace safer and will minimise safety incidents.
