Automate creation of ELBs from existing iSeries and Windows applications

Latest releases of CA`s Advantage 2E and Advantage Plex accelerate delivery of next-generation e-business systems
Johannesburg, 05 Nov 2002

Computer Associates International, Inc (CA) today announced new releases of Advantage 2E and Advantage Plex that provide rapid and simplified development and implementation of Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs). Developers can quickly generate EJBs from existing iSeries400 and Windows application designs and reduce the time and expense required to deliver next-generation e-business applications.

CA`s Advantage Plex 5.1 utilises advanced pattern technology that automates J2EE development for iSeries400 and Windows environments. It insulates developers from underlying architectural complexities of EJB programming standards and specifications, and accelerates time-to-market while ensuring efficiency and quality of the application development process.

CA`s Advantage 2E 8.0 provides model-based development, comprehensive change management tools and other functionality that accelerates and ensures the quality and performance of business applications. Using existing skill sets, developers can automatically generate iSeries400 applications for the J2EE environment.

"Computer Associates continues to drive Advantage Plex forward, enabling us to more readily adopt the new technologies that our customers demand," said Roger Griffith, vice-president of IT at Computer Arts, Inc, a regional software solutions provider for government and law enforcement agencies. "The fact that Advantage Plex allows us to use our existing Windows and iSeries application designs for the J2EE market is fantastic."

"CA`s Advantage 2E has provided us with a high-productivity development solution for many years, enabling us to quickly deliver robust business systems within our budget and staff constraints," said Terry Crawford, director of technical services at Fiserv Life Insurance Solutions. "Being able to extend these solutions to the J2EE platform gives us greater flexibility and significantly broadens our market."

The new releases of Advantage Plex and Advantage 2E are also fully integrated with CA`s Advantage Joe 3.0, providing a common staging area for deployment of EJBs to a full range of J2EE-compliant application servers, including IBM`s WebSphere, BEA`s WebLogic and Oracle`s 9iAS.

"Many of today`s resource-constrained IT organizations have to continue evolving their e-business development initiatives using existing skill sets," said Ricardo Antuna, vice-president of marketing at CA. "Our newly enhanced Advantage 2E and Advantage Plex development solutions enable a new generation of midrange systems programmers to gain the benefits of Java technology without the expense and disruption of major retraining."

Advantage Plex and Advantage 2E are key components of CA`s Advantage portfolio of data management and application development solutions, which provide application and deployment services to build and integrate disparate applications, databases and partner systems.
