AutoPlus facilitates SMEs

Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) has developed an open source (ERP) software, styled as AutoPlus, to facilitate SMEs, reports DailyTimes.

The sectors are ready-made garments, hosiery, automotive parts and accessories, textile processing and surgical instruments` verticals, an official of PSEB said.

Developed under PSEB`s project, in collaboration with Pakistan Association for Automotive Parts and Accessories` Manufacturers and 15 of its more far-sighted member units, four unique ERP software solutions have been developed by member companies of PSEB.

Canonical introduces Ubuntu upgrades

Canonical, commercial sponsors of Ubuntu, has announced the availability of version 7.10 of the Ubuntu Server, Desktop, Kubuntu, and Edubuntu Editions, reports TechTree

The company said the latest version brings together the best open source and free software in a stable, strong environment that `just works`.

New features in Ubuntu 7.10 Desktop Edition include: improvements in hardware management, such as improved plug-and-play configuration for printers; improved support for display systems; Windows compatibility; enhanced user interface; desktop search; and Firefox plug-ins.

Virtual Bridges announces update

Virtual Bridges has released a major upgrade to its Virtual Desktop Server product, reports Virtual-Strategy.

Virtual Desktop Server (VDS), Virtual Bridges` Educational/SME and enterprise product, allows organisations to deploy multiple Windows desktop sessions to PCs, workstations and thin clients from a non-Windows server, such as Linux and Solaris.

VDS is suitable for organisations looking to lower costs and improve through centralisation of desktop computing resources. Typically, these organisations are looking for alternatives to the expensive offerings from VMware or Microsoft.
