AuXion.co.za is an initiative of the Junk Mail Online group, and has been active since late November 1999. The online auctions site is currently in its second phase of functionality, and according to Webmaster Garett Murphy, has a registered user base of 7 985.
The site is partnered to TheShoppingMatrix, Hi-Fi Corporation, Tutuka.com, WorldOnline, Ticketweb and Makro, among others. It features more than 40 categories, and provides a free service to users, acting as a liaison between buyers and sellers.
Appearance
AuXions.co.za`s home page is crammed with information, links, navigation bars and randomly generated pics of auctions currently underway - the overall effect is crowded and busy. Despite this, information is easily accessible.
Functionality
The site appears very easy to use - registration can be accomplished within minutes, and all other aspects of the site are just a click away.
However, once registered, you can`t proactively manage personal details; you must mail the AuXion team who will in turn update your details as required.
Navigation
It is relatively easy to find your way around this site - threaded navigation within categories and anchored top and side navigation bars aid users` negotiation through the site.
Content quality
The site currently runs more than 40 categories; and even though not all of these categories have active auctions on the go, the total number of auctions is impressive; at last check, it stood at just over 2 130.
Litmus test
The site is easy to use; I managed to post an item on auction, and bid for a few to boot, without much trouble. Movements within the site are accompanied by good explanations of each process - even newbies like myself will feel comfortable using the service.
My only gripe is that you can`t register for both personal and business use. That said, kudos to the back-end management system, which picked up on my attempt to register with the birth date 1989/01/01 - the site`s user agreement prohibits people under the age of 21 from making use of service.
