Avaya certifies Brooktrout as compliant with IP systems

Johannesburg, 17 Oct 2007

Cantata Technology, one of the world`s leading providers of enabling communications technology, has announced that its award-winning Brooktrout SR140 fax over Internet protocol (FOIP) platform is compliant with key IP telephony solutions from Avaya, a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services.

The SR140 enables enterprises and service providers to deploy fax server solutions confidently into existing voice over IP (VOIP) installations, while leveraging their existing IP infrastructure. The SR140 has been compliance-tested by Avaya for compatibility with Avaya Communications Manager 3.1.4 and 4.0.1 IP telephony software.

In South Africa, Brooktrout is the fax port of choice for Captaris RightFax, where AmVia bundles the two products as a complete fax server solution. AmVia has for four years been named RightFax Global Partner of the Year, and leads the South African market in fax server solutions, and in the delivery of FOIP.

Cantata has shipped more than 1 million fax ports, with more than 500 billion fax pages transmitted worldwide via Brooktrout since 1992.

With more than 70% market share worldwide, Cantata is the market leader in fax and FOIP platforms, offering one of the fullest featured and broadest fax solution portfolios on the market today.

The Brooktrout SR140 fax platform supports real-time FOIP, providing companies with the ability to integrate fax servers into their VOIP network. They can achieve the same high levels of performance, reliability and scalability that enterprises have come to expect from Cantata`s Brooktrout Series product line, while capturing the benefits of IP-based communications.

"Cantata enables enterprises and service providers to deploy a proven, Avaya-compatible FOIP solution with confidence, as it has been rigorously tested and certified by one of the world`s leading laboratories," says Boudje Giljam, sales and marketing director at South African Cantata distributor, AmVia.

"Cantata`s fax technology sits squarely at the intersection of document management, business process automation and compliance with industry mandates, such as Sarbanes Oxley and HIPAA, in the US, and the National Credit Act and FICA, locally."

Savings, compliance

"By implementing fax on their IP network, Avaya customers will not only benefit from the savings achieved by automating fax document processing, but also by ensuring the integrity of internal control procedures and transactions for regulatory compliance."

Cantata is a member of the Avaya DeveloperConnection Programme -an initiative to develop, market and sell innovative third-party products that interoperate with Avaya technology and extend the value of a company`s investment in its network.

As a Gold member of the programme, Cantata Technology is eligible to submit products for compatibility testing by the Avaya Solution Interoperability and Test Lab in New Jersey.

There, a team of Avaya engineers develops a comprehensive test plan for each application to verify whether it is Avaya-compliant. Doing so ensures businesses can confidently add best-in-class capabilities to their network without having to replace their existing infrastructure, speeding deployment of new applications and reducing both network complexity and implementation costs.

"By offering compliance testing to the many innovative companies, like Cantata Technology, which is a member of our DeveloperConnection Programme, Avaya promotes fully interoperable solutions that help businesses unleash powerful new possibilities," says Eric Rossman, VP of developer relations and technical alliances at Avaya.

"Companies can connect employees and customers to information from wherever they are, over whatever device they have available - obtaining more productivity out of their networks and enhancing their bottom line."
