Avaya Inc, a leading global provider of voice and data networks to businesses, today announced the deployment of a converged voice and data network for Mexico City`s Centro de Exposiciones y Convenciones de las Am'ericas, Latin America`s largest exhibition centre and the site of this year`s ExpoComm Mexico 2002, which is the largest telecom industry trade show in that country.
Avaya signed a strategic agreement for the network deployment with Corporaci'on Interamericana de Entretenimiento (CIE), a leading live entertainment company serving the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking markets and concessionaires of the convention centre.
The exhibition centre, which was completed in 2001, is the largest facility of its kind in Latin America with more than 32 000 square meters of exhibition space. Avaya installed the converged infrastructure to manage voice, video and data on a single network in this state-of-the-art exhibition facility. This converged infrastructure will serve the 300+ exhibitors and over 28 000 people estimated to attend Expo Comm Mexico 2002. The network will feature 1 300 Fast Ethernet ports; 120 Gigabit Ethernet ports; and over 1 000 voice ports, which will support more than 2 300 end-user connections.
Using Avaya`s technology, including LAN switches and IP communications servers, Softphones and Hardphones from its ECLIPS (Enterprise Class IP Solutions) portfolio, the convention centre will be able to offer voice, video and data services to the organisers, exhibitors and attendees of all trade shows, conferences and seminars held at the facility using a single infrastructure. Companies and other users will have access to voice-over-IP (VOIP), ISDN, E1 or analogue service lines, as well as high-speed connections (at least 1Gbps) between two points, and wireless voice and data access.
"We are extremely pleased to be able to showcase our converged voice and data technologies at such an important industry trade show," said Laurent Pruvost Cantu, managing director of Avaya in Mexico. "Having the ability to manage all your voice, data and video communications over a single, reliable network infrastructure offers the Centro de Exposiciones y Convenciones de las Americas unparalleled advantages such as reduced network management complexity and costs, as well as improved performance."
Avaya`s solutions will provide the flexibility and mobility needed by companies participating in trade shows and conferences such as ExpoComm Mexico 2002, which will be held in February. This event will feature Karyn Mashima, Avaya`s senior vice president for Global Strategy and Technology, as the keynote speaker on 13 February at 4pm.
