Avaya offers converged comms for SMEs

Avaya, and its supplier and telecommunications distributor Kathea Communications, have launched a converged communication system for small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Kathea says the new solution, IP Office, gives organisations access to a single cabling infrastructure for voice and , with a central point of administration and remote maintenance via a LAN, WAN or analogue modem.

The companies say the product enables SMEs to take advantage of voice over IP functionality, optimised bandwidth allocation and a single connection to public networks, saving rental costs.

"The ability to pre-configure the system and maintain the entire network through a single remote management console helps to streamline the operation of this network and saves money by reducing maintenance requirements," says Al McKie, Avaya business development manager at Kathea.

"If a company wants to add a hub, H323 gateway/gatekeeper, DHCP server, router, firewall, Internet access, remote access server, or WAN connectivity, they will need to access and maintain separate devices," says Luis Silva, Avaya product manager for Kathea.

"However, through Avaya`s IP Office, these components are included as standard with one management interface.

"New applications can be installed later on a standard PC. Typical applications include voicemail, auto-attendant, interactive voice response, e-console, softphones, contact centre suites, voice recording and call queuing," says Silva.

The system is able to incorporate LAN ports for integration with an existing corporate network environment. It can also serve as an IP router for a new network.

The IP Office can handle up to 120 ISDN channels and 360 extensions, distributed over a total of 500 extensions, across 16 inter-connected sites. The companies say the solution also delivers a customer relationship management solution for the SME market and has a built-in firewall for secure Internet access.
