Avaya has announced the successful installation of its WLAN solution at the Abu Dhabi Hilton Hotel, the base of FIFA operations for the FIFA World Youth Championship 2003 (U-20) which started on 27 November 2003 in Abu Dhabi.
The installation of Avaya`s WLAN was completed two weeks before the championship started, and has transformed the building into FIFA`s temporary headquarters for the event.
Approximately 120 FIFA staff members are using the wireless network to access important information, e-mail and other requirements for up to 17 hours per day during this exciting tournament, which ends with the final on 19 December 2003.
FIFA chose to partner yet again with Avaya to help it deliver a state-of-the-art network infrastructure with speed, flexibility and reliability following the success of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, the FIFA U-17 World Championship in Finland and most recently, the FIFA Women`s World Cup 2003, hosted by the US.
This again demonstrates how wireless networks are flexible as well as scalable and are by far the most efficient way to set up a robust network for one-off events. Once the championship ends, the network will be disassembled and re-used for other FIFA events to be held in 2004 and onwards. It will also be used for the 2004 Olympics in Greece for which FIFA is providing the Olympic Committee with its know-how.
