Many companies are looking to the cloud to deliver services that enable simplicity, says Avaya's Danny Drew.

Avaya has unveiled a network lifecycle management solution to simplify and accelerate deployment and management of networks - both wired and wireless.

The company says the Avaya Cloud Networking Platform provides IT professionals with centralised management, visibility and control over their networks without the complexity of controller appliances or overlay management software.

Cloud-managed models are growing rapidly, with cloud-managed increasing at twice the rate of wireless local area networks, says Avaya.

In addition, businesses are increasingly seeking a unified solution that can manage both wireless and wired networks, it notes.

Danny Drew, MD of Avaya SA, says many companies are looking to the cloud to deliver services that enable simplicity for their operations, speed of deployment and faster return on investment consumed via an operating expenditure (opex)-based model.

"Companies adopting cloud strategies to move from capital expenditure-intensive IT investment to opex-based models will benefit from moving their network management into the cloud."

Drew says the platform is a perfect fit for organisations looking to deploy and manage their secure wireless local area network with limited IT staff while improving overall of their network service.

With the current increase in the consumerisation of technology and organisations embracing bring your own device strategies for business applications as well as communications and collaboration, the shift and dependency on wireless networks is superseding that of wired networks, he notes.

"It therefore makes sense to consolidate the management of both wired and wireless solutions into a single solution to have full visibility and consistent security and across both domains.

"SA customers with limited IT skills looking to migrate to next-generation networks will benefit from the simplified management and enhanced security capabilities of our cloud-based offering; we see this being especially true for the SME segment."

The solution will be generally available globally with support for wireless in November and support for wired networks in a follow-on release.
