Avaya, Inc., a global leader in business communications, solutions and services, recently announced two new products to help ensure businesses` converged voice//video networks - the networks that keep their companies up and running - are fast, reliable, and efficient.

The new products are Avaya`s fastest, top-of-the-line data switch and an advanced, intuitive tool to manage and allocate priority to converged traffic.

"These products add to our existing strong line of data solutions," said Graham Celine, vice president, solutions management for Avaya`s data group. "They`re reliable, fast, and easy to use - critical factors for businesses as they migrate to converged networks. With these newest offerings - as in our entire line - we focus on what businesses need, and not simply `boxes`. That`s what makes Avaya different from others in the industry."

The new offerings include Avaya`s Cajun P882 MultiService Backbone switch, which enables 128 Gigabit Ethernet and 768 10/100 ports on a single switch, and CajunRules management software that helps enterprises gain control of their network traffic by assigning priorities to the traffic.

"For example, if you`re in a company`s human resources, an application such as PeopleSoft might be your most important function," Celine said. "So, on the intuitive user interface, your network manager can set up a relationship between the human resources organization and that particular application, giving it priority over other traffic. And the Cajun P882 switch handles everything from basic traffic transport to managing web-based requests, quickly and efficiently."

Last week, Avaya also announced an Internet protocol (IP) convergence kit, which includes everything an enterprise needs to take its first step into the world of converged voice/data/video.

"It`s an off-the-shelf convergence kit in one package," Celine said. "And a way for enterprises to try out IP telephony.
