Avellino, a privately held data integration and data quality solutions vendor, has announced that Avellino Discovery, its data profiling software product, will enable Land Rover to bring a new business intelligence solution live on 28 November, 20% to 30% sooner and also at less overall cost than could otherwise have been expected.
The bespoke solution, known as `Order to Delivery` (OtD) metrics, will serve Land Rover, part of the Premier Automotive Group, Ford`s prestige portfolio of brands.
The OtD model, developed by the sales and operations planning project team at Land Rover, supports a number of process changes which together yield significant improvements in the areas of stock, variable marketing spend, customer satisfaction, revenue, residual values and incremental sales. One of the key objectives of the OtD project is the provision of consistent, reliable and understandable metrics (aka key performance indicators, KPIs) to evaluate both the current and the future performance of the end-to-end OtD process.
The OtD metrics solution adds to the existing toolset by taking vehicle order information, combining it with existing data warehouse build and distribution data and using it to provide intelligence to the Land Rover departments involved within the vehicle Order to Delivery process. This information is required to plan and prepare for timely vehicle production and accurate delivery of customers` vehicles to dealers, ie helping to get the right products built and delivered to the right place at the right time.
Information from the OtD metrics solution facilitates an improved business capability to compare internal service level agreements (SLAs) against KPIs, eg lead-time through process steps, delivery promise accuracy and build to order rates.
Avellino Discovery sped development of the OtD Metrics solution by helping the Land Rover business intelligence team to more quickly and accurately understand the structure of data sources and their content. A good understanding of source data enabled an accurate programming specification to be built, so that testing and re-write work was also reduced.
Discovery was also used to automatically profile the source data warehouse for quality and integrity issues, so these could be accurately defined and addressed in efficient, targeted cleansing projects. This work ensuring that the data upon which OtD metrics is dependent is fit for this purpose and the information presented to the business is accurate, reliable and trusted - essential if the return on investment in the OtD solution is to be maximised.
"This is an important project for our business users. Due to the complex and mixed structure of existing legacy data in the warehouse, we knew that prior to embarking upon new solution development for OtD we needed to better understand and cleanse our existing data. Avellino Discovery enabled us to save 20% to 30% of development and testing time as well as associated costs," a Land Rover employee said.
"Also, Discovery has helped us to improve the value and accuracy of information delivered by our new business intelligence solution by enabling us to more efficiently spot and resolve issues in source data quality."
Data profiling with Avellino Discovery enables organisations to better understand their data when building and implementing systems, and to pinpoint source data quality issues quickly and efficiently. This speeds development, improves data integration and the suitability of data to support business needs. With Avellino Discovery, firms can improve return on investment (ROI) in data dependant applications such as business intelligence systems, supply chain management, customer relationship management and enterprise resource planning solutions.
With a global reach in 142 countries, Land Rover has grown from a utilitarian single product brand in 1948, to producing a four-strong range of vehicles, culminating in Range Rover.
The heart of Land Rover is the Solihull site, a production facility spanning more than 121 hectares and employing over 8 000 workers. All materials at the plant are either re-used or recycled, from 1 300 tonnes of wood to the smallest off cut of metal. Commitment to the environment also extends to local residents with a green buffer of trees providing a visual and noise barrier to the plant. Land Rover has been recognised for its overall achievement, receiving two Queen`s awards for enterprise.

Avellino Discovery
Avellino Discovery automates the profiling and analysis of data to be integrated and migrated to new systems and business applications, and provides a detailed description of the data content, structure, rules and quality. Because it does not rely on data definition rules, metadata or out-of-date documentation, it is far more accurate than manual methods and eliminates the assumptions that can lead to project failure. Avellino Discovery enables organisations to accurately plan their data integration and migration projects, reduce risks associated with data quality problems, reduce cost and increase productivity of data analysis by as much as 90% over manual methods.
