At the invitation of Huawei Technologies and Fibernet Group, 120 senior executives from 40 carriers around the world met in London to explore the world of international data communications with the theme focusing around winning big accounts to forge a superb network.
Over the past two years Huawei and Fibernet have co-operated closely and Huawei has proven to be a key supplier to Fibernet and pivotal in the success of Fibernet`s award-winning Ethernet services.
Fibernet told their success story about winning the recent award of the "European Metro Ethernet Service Provider of the Year 2004 - Best in Business" awarded by the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF). The MEF also gave a detailed overview of the Metro Ethernet Market and Forum and how the decision was reached to award Fibernet.
In October 2003, Fibernet deployed Huawei`s 5th Generation Router product - the Quidway NetEngine 40. Fibernet is utilising Huawei`s Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) technology across a national Ethernet/MPLS backbone which provides a high performance converged services platform for key business customers. The combination of RPR network technology plus wire speed performance has enabled Fibernet to deliver true carrier-class Ethernet services.
Fibernet proved to be a captivating case study for all the overseas customers and enabled them to get a comprehensive understanding of how Fibernet operates a wide range of Ethernet services within the UK market.
Edward Deng, Vice-President of Huawei, welcomed all the participants and invited everyone to freely exchange their thinking during the seminar, especially during the open discussions in the afternoon session. The open discussions proved an interesting debate and explored the opportunities existing in the market and how operators can win business from large corporate and service provider customers.
Discussions also focused on the major challenges faced by telecom operators through the emergence of new services and how to attract and retain subscribers in an open, competitive market; and how to lower the cost while providing multiple services.
China Telecom gave an important presentation and shared with the delegates its network planning and operation experience from one of the world`s most important markets.
Fibernet`s Ethernet services are now available from all of its 100-plus points of presence in the UK and provide customers with an unrivalled choice of service options and deployment models.
Charles McGregor, Chief Executive Officer of Fibernet Group, said: "Fibernet are delighted to have had the opportunity to work with Huawei and participate in this successful seminar. We were very pleased to be able to share Fibernet`s Ethernet experience with operators from all parts of the world. We hope that what they have learned at this seminar will help them with their future Ethernet plans in their home country."
