AWS, which has been working with South African businesses of all sizes since 2006, is set to gauge local cloud maturity in a new survey, and launch a series of webinars.
Zubin Chagpar: head of MEA, AWS Public Sector Sales, notes that millions of active customers are using AWS each month, in over 190 countries around the world, including customers in Africa.
AWS is helping South Africans develop skills, launch new businesses and grow global presence, he says.
“Startups like Africam, Aerobotics, Apex Innovation, Asoriba, BusinessOptics, ClearScore, Clickatell, ColonyHQ, Custos Media, DataProphet, DPO PayGate, EMS Invirotel, Entersekt, GetSmarter, GovChat, graylink, HealthQ, Hepstar, iHouzit, JourneyApps, JUMO, Luno, Mukuru, NicheStreem, Parcelninja, Sensor Networks, Simfy Africa, Sodunim, TymeBank, Zanibal, Zapper, and Zoona are building their businesses on top of AWS.
"Enterprises across Africa moving to AWS include Absa, Capitec Bank, MiX Telematics, Multichoice, Old Mutual, Pick n Pay, Platcorp, Standard Bank, Travelstart, Viusasa, Vodacom, and many more. Public sector organisations such as CareConnect, Digital Earth Africa, The National Museums of Kenya, Right to ePharmacy, University of Pretoria, University of the Witwatersrand, and many more are also using AWS to better serve citizens across the African continent,” he says.
Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, AWS sees opportunities to support more businesses in their transformation, help startups build new businesses, and enable healthcare, education and the public sector to better serve citizens.
“AWS is striving to better understand perceptions of cloud adoption and its potential to stimulate the South African economy,” says Chagpar. We are working to collaborate with our South African customers and other organisations as they innovate with cloud-based technologies to create jobs and develop solutions to address South Africa’s unique cultural, political, health and geographic challenges.”
AWS, in collaboration with ITWeb, will explore trends and opportunities to drive transformation through cloud technology in the first of a series of webinars to be held on Thursday 3 September.
Future webinars will also focus on innovations that enhance rapid deployment of service delivery in the health sector, opening engagement for a connected government and citizenry, digital transformation as an enabler of smart cities of the future and skills development and capacity building for a future-proofed workforce.
