Axis Communications announces further investment in nBand Communications

By Global Research Partners
Johannesburg, 12 Sept 2000

Leaf Industries, the sole value-added distributor in Africa for Axis Communications, today announced that Axis Communications, a leader in connectivity and mobile solutions, had invested an additional $1,5 million in the American company nBand Communications, Inc. At the same time the leading American venture capital company VantagePoint Venture Partners had also invested in nBand Comms. VantagePoint was recently ranked in the magazine Red Herring as one of the four most successful venture companies in the world.

nBand develops advanced technology for semiconductors and processors, with the ambition to become a leading supplier of broadband communication.

Axis had already invested $1.5 million in nBand and is the largest industrial shareholder, with an estimated 12,5% of the shares of nBand.

"This investment supports our focus on wireless network solutions," says Torbj"orn Ward, General Manager of the Mobile Internet Division at Axis. "Our commitment to nBand provides us with access to the latest developments in next generation wireless broadband technologies. Combining this with our own presence in Silicon Valley means that we gain a clear grasp of the developments in wireless transmission in the American market."

nBand`s business model is based on supplying semiconductors and development tools to systems suppliers. nBand is also actively engaged in co-development and collaboration with strategic partners, such as Axis. Located in Sunnyvale, California, nBand was started last year by industry veterans from Sun Microsystems and Intel.
