Axis development platforms in high demand

Johannesburg, 15 Jan 2003

SCS Distribution, sole distributor in southern Africa for Axis Communications, today announced that Axis Communications has signed an agreement with leading French integrator and barcodes solution provider, Technyx, for the delivery of AXIS Device Server Platforms.

The agreement with Technyx adds further proof of Axis` strength as a leading provider of technology for network connectivity. This order follows three earlier volume orders for AXIS Device Server Platforms from third-party developers in the last six months.

Technyx specialises in communication solutions that utilise barcode technology to allow customers to connect dedicated barcode equipment to wide area networks within enterprises. The device servers to be delivered within this agreement are an integrated part of Technyx`s newly launched gateway solution. The gateway offers users an open standard for sharing data over central servers, regardless of the type of terminal (lap top, handheld PC, mobile phone etc) the user works from. The solution also offers remote access to services that permit execution of online batch jobs on central host servers.

"We decided to go for Axis` technology as a base for our solution because of its outstanding performance compared to other embedded devices," commented Nabil Daher, Products Manager of Technyx. "By investing in a product-ready, Linux-based kernel, we can significantly reduce development time and shorten time-to-market. Choosing a recognised technology and a well-known operating system like Linux is essential to reducing costs and risks. It also facilitates the addition of new technologies to our offering in the future.""

Axis is committed to open source development and actively supports application development using Axis` technology.
