SCS Distribution, sole distributor for Axis Communications, today launched network video accessories that enable Axis network video products to receive power and data over a single Ethernet connection.
Power over LAN Midspan and Active Splitter from Axis enable network cameras and video servers to be installed in areas where traditional power cabling and outlets are unavailable or difficult to install. Power over LAN offers an easier, faster and more cost-effective solution than installing new power outlets and electrical cabling.
Power over LAN allows network-enabled products to receive both data and power over standard Category 5 LAN cabling up to 100 meters away. This makes it easier and less expensive to install devices where no outlets are readily available. In addition, no electrician is needed.
By using the Power over LAN Midspans together with uninterrupted power supply (UPS) devices; Axis` network cameras and video servers can continue to operate even when there is a power failure. By eliminating the power cable, Axis is furthering its commitment to providing users with total security and surveillance solutions, and to improving the manageability and flexibility of its network-based video offerings.
The Power over LAN Midspan is compliant with IEEE 802.3af, which ensures compatibility with future power over Ethernet products. The product provides power only to devices that are specifically designed to accept Power over LAN and not to other devices connected to the network, such as desktop computers and laptops. To make Axis` current range of network video products Power over LAN-enabled, the Power over LAN Active Splitter is used to separate the data and power from the network cable.
