Axis` tough new kid on the IP video block

Johannesburg, 08 Feb 2006

Axis Communications has released an outstanding new fixed dome day/night network camera, the Axis 225FD, designed to be robust and easy to install and with all the advantages of IP video.

Its discreet, vandal-resistant and outdoor-proof design (to IP66) provides maximum protection in tough environmental conditions. The built-in heater and fan protect against low temperatures and help prevent the glass from misting over.

Roy Alves, Managing Director of SCS Distribution, Axis` exclusive distributor in Africa, stated: "The Axis 225FD is purpose designed for remote surveillance of facilities like schools, railway stations, car parks and bank branches. Multi-level password control, secure https access and IP filtering make it ideal for providing both local and remote access and monitoring securely."

Built-in simultaneous Motion JPEG and MPEG4 data streams deliver bandwidth-efficient images, with local intelligence for motion detection, pre-alarm buffering, and interaction with other systems through input/output ports, a serial port, and image upload via ftp, http or e-mail.

The 225FD`s compact and cost-efficient design enables easy and flexible installation with tamper-proof mounting on wall or ceiling. Installation costs are reduced with Power over Ethernet (PoE) support that means the camera and its fan/heater require just a single Ethernet cable. PoE devices are designed to be powered through a PoE switch running on the network UPS.

The varifocal lens has versatile pan, tilt and rotate to any camera angle desired, and gives crisp images at up to 640x480 resolution, up to 30fps in all resolutions. An automatically removable infrared cut filter allows the camera to work in both bright and low-light conditions. Colour mode works down to 1 lux, and black-and-white down to just 0.2 lux, giving clear pictures even with rapid motion in low light conditions.

Further integration facilities are provided through SNMP support and a powerful application programming interface.
