AXIZ announces HP`s configure to order service for workstations

Johannesburg, 18 Sep 2003

HP has introduced a configure to order (CTO) process for workstation customer that cannot find a machine to meet their precise requirements, according to Lee-Anne Hutchins, HP desktops and workstations product manager at Axiz.

She explains: "With HP`s CTO service, customers can specify their exact hardware requirements and have the workstations custom built for them. There are no minimum quantities for order and no additional charges apply. The CTO machines take three days to be configured and burnt in after which the products will ship via the usual channels to SA.

"Previously HP would pre-configure its workstations and customers would select from these pre-defined lists. While all HP`s workstations included the necessary technology for workstation customers, the precise requirements and exact needs of specific customers were not always accommodated in these pre-built machines. The CTO process means that customers can buy hardware designed and suited to their exact specifications and to meet their individual business requirements," she continues.

According to Hutchins, the CTO service provides these customers with the peace of mind that the hardware is installed and integrated at factory level: "Workstation customers will not have to order individual elements and assemble them themselves. The initial burn-in of the component parts takes place at the factory, ensuring a better out-of-the-box experience for these customers," she states.

HP`s CTO facility is offered by Axiz using a tool called Sales Builder. Susan Dey, HP workstation specialist at Intrinsic Technology, HP`s premier workstation partner, comments: "We are thrilled that Axiz is now offering HP`s CTO process. Our customers have specific workstation configuration and operating system needs that are determined by the application environment they are running. We always ran into problems previously when purchasing through the distribution channel as the pre-configured workstations offered did not meet these needs. The ability to purchase any quantity of custom-configured workstations will change all that. We believe this will also mean improved delivery times for our customers."
