Axiz embraces empowerment with Ledibogo initiative to boost channel

Johannesburg, 22 Jun 2004

Ledibogo, meaning bridge, is an Axiz initiative to address the economic divide between advantaged and disadvantaged communities through the deployment of technology and education.

In a move to uplift the local channel, IT infrastructure distributor Axiz has launched a partner programme designed to provide skills development to previously disadvantaged resellers. The initiative is as a result of a dire need within the channel at reseller level, for basic business skill support. According to Axiz, resellers have traditionally been neglected and Ledibogo is a modest start to address the lack of skills within the channel and make a visible difference. By implementing an initiative like this, Axiz aims to develop its BEE business partners to account for at least 30% of its revenue by 2006.

"The Axiz Ledibogo initiative outlines our commitment to good corporate citizenship and to all elements of the ICT BEE charter. We developed the Ledibogo business partner programme to ensure that we contribute to the economic empowerment of SA`s marginalised communities by helping them grow as business owners as well as resellers," says David Caygill, sales director, Axiz.

The objective of the programme is to actively engage both established and new black companies in activities such as business and sales training, technical training, product workshops, business forums and mentorship programmes. It is registered with the Services SETA, is accredited and National Qualification Framework (NQF) aligned. It also contributes in credits towards a national qualification.

The channel and the development thereof, is of great importance to Axiz. Joe du Toit, channel manager, says: "We passionately believe in the creation and development of the channel to provide maximum value and unsurpassed service to end-users. The Ledibogo business partner programme is one way in which Axiz can contribute to the economic upliftment of previously disadvantaged resellers while making a real difference to the local channel in SA."

With the programme, Axiz will continue to expand its network of partners, specifically black-owned companies, in the value-added reseller chain through to the end-user. "By doing this we consistently provide viable business opportunities for partners," says Caygill.

Kicking off in June 2004, the programme will:

* Provide partners with necessary skills to build their companies successfully.
* Increase capacity by developing product knowledge and providing sales and business tools to enable partners to compete effectively.
* Develop a business relationship with Axiz, creating a sound partnership for mutual success.

Partners will be required to commit to a 12-month programme, which includes several initiatives involving partner organisations. It commences with a one-on-one strategic planning session whereby a better understanding of the business partner`s organisational objectives is gained. This assists with tailoring the training modules to address the needs of each partner`s business.

To do this, Axiz has partnered with a reputable training company to customise best practice and world-class competency-based programmes. This ensures that partners are provided with the knowledge and skills that will positively impact their business.

"Working together with Axiz, we customised our programmes and added further interventions so that the skills taught would be truly transferred to the partners` workplace. These key differentiators ensure that Axiz`s BEE business partners achieve and embrace not only a significant understanding of business, but also implement the training on the programme to achieve real bottom line results," says Valerie Lew-Kiedrowski, MD of Blueprint Future Skills Development.

"Simultaneously the skill gained will also provide them with the indirect results of an increase in confidence and self-reliance, to assist in building their businesses in the short-term. In the long-term, the results of both the business and the life-skills will also assist in building the economy, echoing President Thabo Mbeki`s call in November 2003 to help others grow their skills and in so doing - the nation," she adds.

The training partners are required to participate in forums facilitated by Axiz to review both the content and quality of the programme on a regular basis. "This ensures that we continue to offer the most beneficial and appropriate training at all times," comments Caygill.

Michael Dzimbanete, managing director of Makhonya Technologies, will be one of the first resellers to attend the Ledibogo training programme: "I have been a reseller and service provider since 1997 but definitely feel that I need to sharpen my business skills. Until now, we have never been able to attend training courses due to the exorbitant costs involved. I am very excited about Ledibogo as the course is hands-on and includes theory and practical components. It is also in a classroom environment, which means I can interact with other resellers and share experiences."

"There are two main reasons CEOS Technologies is taking part in the initiative. The first is the opportunity to take a refreshing look at our business. The training will enable us to revisit all elements of our business from processes to customer relations and make the necessary improvements and adjustments. The second is that we view the programme as a motivational tool. It will inspire us to become more productive and reach for higher goals," says Ann Kleynhans, managing director, CEOS Technologies.

"CEOS Technologies is very pleased that Axiz has introduced the Ledibogo business partner programme. We view companies such as Axiz as leaders and believe that it is important for them to show an interest in our business and its potential."
