Axiz provides unexpected boost for African journalism

Johannesburg, 08 Jul 2010

Axiz, a leading IT infrastructure distributor, recently donated a Lenovo Thinkpad to Ahmed Jallanzo, a freelance photographer from Monrovia, Liberia.

Ahmed is currently in South Africa covering the Dream Team of the TwentyTen project initiated and supported by World Press Photo and its South African partner Africa Media Online. The project is dedicated to reporting on African football, related issues and the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Ahmed had been using an inefficient, borrowed notebook for his assignments and this frustrating situation was hampering progress. He is delighted with the donation from Axiz.

“Good and efficient PC equipment is difficult to purchase in Liberia. My sincere thanks to Axiz as I now feel empowered to produce more freelance work as well as continuing with my commitments to the European Press Photo Agency as its West African representative.”

African Media on the Road to 2010 (and beyond) is a multidisciplinary media project aimed at highlighting and strengthening African journalism through African journalists representing 34 nationalities. They create written articles, photographs, broadcasts and multimedia productions related to African football for distribution worldwide. It is an initiative co-ordinated by World Press Photo, Free Voice, Africa Media Online and lokaalmondiaal, and is sponsored by the Dutch Postcode Lottery.
