Leading IT infrastructure distributor, Axiz, has redefined disc labelling with LG`s LightScribe technology. Enabling users to create professional looking labels for CDs and DVDs, LG LightScribe uses the same laser that burns data onto the disc inside the CD or DVD drive for professional silk-screen-like labels.
"Axiz has introduced LG LightScribe as a way for users to overcome having to label discs with a felt pen or adhesive label. It produces laser-etched labels by combining the CD or DVD drive of a LightScribe-enabled computer with enhanced disc-burning software. Thanks to this technology, users do not have to worry about additional consumables such as ink jet cartridges," says Philip Henning, LG product manager, Axiz.
Any PC can be used with the LG LightScribe as long as the DVD or CD writer, media and software are LightScribe-enabled. Hardware includes a LightScribe-enabled disc drive that can burn labels on LightScribe media using the same laser that the drive uses to burn data. LightScribe-licensed software applications allow users to create simple or elaborate label designs.
The LightScribe host system software includes unique labelling applications delivered with the hardware, to ensure communication between all system components. LightScribe media have a unique, laser-imageable, screen-printed coating in addition to functional features embossed on the discs themselves.
"Simply put, the label is the disc with LG LightScribe, so all users have to do is burn data - whether it be music, a digital-video, photo archive or a business application - onto the CD or DVD, and flip it over to burn a unique label," indicates Henning.
Although PC peripherals will be the first to use LG LightScribe, Henning believes consumer electronic products will shortly follow suit as manufactures understand the benefits the product offers.
The LG LightScribe product will be available early December 2005. For more information about LG LightScribe please contact Axiz on (011) 237 7000.
