AXiZ has announced that it has been appointed as one of two distributors in South Africa to distribute Intel`s Shiva range of networking products.
Intel acquired Shiva in February 1999 because of its talented people, innovative technology and well developed channel. Networking plays a strategic role in Intel`s vision of a billion connected computers and Shiva`s industry leading remote access and VPN products as well as its focus on the small to medium sized enterprise market segment is a great complement to Intel`s network systems business.
"Acquiring Shiva will allow Intel to extend its capabilities for networking solutions into the wide area network, remote access, and Virtual Private Networking (VPN) market segments," says Craig Brunsden, networking product manager at AXiZ. "Shiva Corporation currently has a compelling Direct Dial Access and VPN product line that will add to Intel`s strengths in networking systems products (hubs and switches)."
Shiva has a combination of products and technologies that are synergistic with Intel`s current capabilities. Shiva and Intel combined will be able to offer their customers and the VAR channel a broad set of best in class networking solutions.
Shiva Corporation has a complementary field sales and service organisation. The addition of Shiva provides increased product breadth, sales force coverage, and support services. Shiva Direct Dial and VPN technology has been real world tested at over 100,000 customer sites, and Intel will benefit from customer experience from having Direct Dial and VPN products deployed in production environments.
"Shiva Corporation will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Intel and will become a WAN / Access focused business unit reporting into the Network Systems Division of the Network and Communications Group (NCG)," says Brunsden. Remote Access development will continue at Shiva`s development sites around the world, and Intel will continue to sell and support the existing Shiva Corporation product line under existing product names for now, with plans to merge the product range with Intel`s over time.
