Bakker leaves GuruHut

Johannesburg, 17 May 2004

Nigel Bakker, one of the two original founders of GuruHut, has left the company to pursue other interests. "GuruHut has matured into a solid business with great potential for the future and it is with mixed emotions that I have made this move," says Bakker.

"The market has changed, and I have achieved much of what I set out to achieve when I established GuruHut with Chris Nel in 2000. We`ve had a lot of fun and done a lot of great work. I expect that the company will go from strength to strength, building on the foundation that has been laid. The time has however come for me to look for new challenges," he continues.

"We are sad to see him go; Nigel brought a lot of energy and passion to GuruHut," says Chris Nel, MD. "As my partner and co-founder, he has been an integral part of the business, but we respect his need to move on and wish him the best of luck in his new ventures."

GuruHut started in October 2000 as a specialist consulting and training venture with a special focus in the Java systems development niche. Bakker and Nel had also been involved for some time in training in their areas of expertise in general, and Java in particular. The company`s first major training initiative, the Java LaunchPAD, was developed by them while they were at CCH Software Futures. When they started GuruHut, they negotiated a joint marketing and delivery deal with CCH Software Futures and took the product forward to the market.

From these humble beginnings, GuruHut has grown its range of training products to its current position of being one of the leading suppliers of specialised software development and business analysis training in SA today.

"While training forms is a large part of what GuruHut does, its core business is in the area of high-end systems development consulting, particularly in large-scale, high-risk mission-critical projects. Our track record speaks for itself," says Nel. "We have had significant success in the consulting side of the business, enabling the successful delivery of several very tough projects."
