Banco Popular Español invests in complete virus detection with Computer Associates` InoculateIT

CA`s award-winning Anti virus Solution to protect leading Spanish Bank`s 2,000-Server Network
Johannesburg, 11 Jun 1999

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) has announced that the Banco Popular Español (BPE), one of Spain`s largest banking entities, has implemented InoculateIT, CA`s award-winning virus protection solution, to safeguard its enterprise infrastructure of servers and clients from a full range of potential malicious code threats.

BPE`s IT infrastructure includes over 2,000 NT servers and 12,000 Windows NT workstations. After evaluating its technology environment - and assessing the risk to its business posed by viruses and other malicious code - the bank concluded that it needed a powerful antivirus solution that was:

  • capable of detecting and curing 100% of all in-the-wild viruses;

  • continually updated to protect the bank from viruses originating anywhere in the world;

  • easily managed and well-integrated with its existing heterogeneous computing platforms.

The company selected CA`s InoculateIT to protect all potential points of virus entry, including electronic mail services and new corporate applications available to its employees and customers. These new applications include home banking, online demos, and external access to corporate information and applications.

"In addition to being able to count on InoculateIT to guarantee protection against all computer viruses, we have also found it easy to integrate into our security strategy and easy to adminster from a centralized point-of-control," said Miguel Angel Jalvo, BPE`s Information Technology Manager. "For us, that means maximum protection and minimized risk at a low cost with the least possible drain on our staff resources."

InoculateIT continuously protects against the attack of new viruses through the automatic updating of virus signature files, which are automatically distributed to all servers and clients on the network.

"InoculateIT will enable BPE to avoid the potential consequences of a virus attack even as our computing environment grows and becomes increasingly exposed to the outside world," said Joaquín Ciruelo, CA divisional manager, Spain. "By implementing InoculateIT, BPE can proceed with its electronic commerce initiatives with greater confidence."
