Thousands of Gauteng public servants got their February salaries late this week, due to a Standard Bank technical problem.
Standard Bank paid several thousand irate Gauteng public servants, most of whom were teachers, by lunchtime yesterday.
"A technical problem caused a delay in paying civil servants in the Gauteng region," says Erik Laursen, external communications manager at Standard Bank.
"Ninety-five percent of the affected customers were paid by Monday evening but the remaining 5% were paid by lunchtime yesterday, when the problem was cleared up."
The bank would not comment further.
