Bank of America gets green card
Bank of America has teamed with Brighter Planet to offer a credit card that helps customers reduce their contribution to climate change and invest in the development of clean, renewable energy projects, says CNNMoney.com.
The Brighter Planet Visa credit card enables customers to earn one EarthSmart point for every $1 spent in purchases. Points earned with the Brighter Planet Visa credit card are automatically redeemed each month to support renewable energy projects.
Each 1 000 points earned is projected to offset one ton of carbon dioxide. Eliminating one ton of carbon dioxide has the same global warming impact as taking an average car off the road for two months.
Thieves target new tech
Social networking sites and online banking will be a major target for attacks next year as criminals continue to make money from mining personal data and committing ID fraud, according to new research released last week, says vnunet.com.
The annual Virtual Criminology Report warned that attacks on Web-based services such as online banking will be one of the 10 biggest global security threats in 2008, and may crucially damage consumer confidence in such services.
The UK`s financial institutions also came in for some criticism, despite banks such as Barclays rolling out two-factor authentication during 2007 in an attempt to halt fraud.
