Bank releases financial exec aide

US-based PNC has rolled out Pinnacle Mobile, which enables financial executives to review balances and approve basic transactions in a secure environment using their mobile phones, reports CPI Financial.

Pinnacle Mobile is a complementary channel to PNC's online portal for corporate customers.

Pinnacle Mobile was designed by PNC for financial executives who may be out of the office for business or personal reasons to perform basic functions without having to plug into an electrical socket or to find a connection.

Scareware a threat to Internet banking

Britons using Internet banking need to be aware that organised criminal gangs are exploiting security-conscious Internet users by tricking them into downloading and paying for anti-virus protection which is actually malicious software, according to the Banking Times.

According to the government-sponsored 'Get Safe Online' Web site, cyber criminals have developed scareware - a malware variant - which preys on consumers concerned about protecting their computers by convincing them that their computer has been infected and then offering to fix the problem.

Victims pay around £30 to download a 'patch', which allows the fraudsters to obtain credit card information, secure remote control of the victim's computer and launch phishing attacks that are untraceable.

Kenya intros mobile loan access

Kenyans could soon be accessing loans from anywhere and at any time through their mobile phones, says The Standard.

This follows the unveiling of a mobile phone banking software by a local company, Lanster Technologies, which allows one to apply for a loan and have it processed through a mobile phone.

The software, referred to as 'Xtreme Connect', aims to enable individuals to receive a notification on cheque maturity, and salary credit alerts from either a savings and credit co-operative society or any other financial institution via mobile phone.
