Banks join SIM-based network

A trio of has joined three Dutch network operators in creating a compatible Near Field Communications (NFC) infrastructure, based on SIM security, aiming to bring contactless payment to the Netherlands by 2012, reports The Register.

T-Mobile, Vodafone and KPN are the operators, while Rabobank, ABN Amro and ING make up the side of the table.

The companies have signed a letter of intent to create an infrastructure supporting payments from mobile phones using the NFC standard.

DataArt develops m-banking site for Plastyc

High-end software development company DataArt has completed the development of a new mobile banking and payments platform for US-based payment services provider Plastyc, states TelecomPaper.

DataArt developed a mobile-optimised Web site for WAP 2.0-compatible mobile Web browsers, enabling users to access Plastyc's mobile services regardless of mobile device or service provider.

The company integrated the site with the mobile device browser file to automatically detect browser and screen size specifications of each user's device, and redirect them to a distinct optimised Web site.

Equity Bank sued over M-Kesho

A businessman is accusing Equity Bank of a breach of confidence and use of his idea for commercial gain over the innovative mobile banking system, M-Kesho, reports Business Daily.

M-Kesho is a partnership between Safaricom and Equity Bank.

Hoswel Mbugua Njuguna sought a court injunction against Equity from using information he claims he confided to the bank's agent.
