prioritise IT

Today's dynamic business environment is driving banks to align their IT investments with business strategy and revisit outsourcing , according to Bangkok Post. It adds that the ability to multi-source IT services will be an important skill for businesses.

IT can help businesses overcome the global economic crisis in two ways, by stimulating innovation and controlling costs, said Kasikorn 's CEO Banthoon Lamsum. He recently addressed the Thailand ICT Management Forum, organised by the Thailand Management Association, titled 'Crisis is Opportunity'.

"Investment in technology has to be aligned with business strategies. Maximising IT alone is not a formula for success; rather it is how IT is adopted into the processes and management."

NCC rolls out 2009 rules

To ensure effective services in its telecoms industry this year, the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has released fresh guidelines for telecom operations, according to The Guardian.

The guidelines include the setting up of a public inquiry, which will seek to resolve issues such as the interconnectivity problems of various networks operating in the country.

The vice-chairman of the NCC, Ernest Ndukwe, said at the Commission's headquarters in Abuja that, "Our focus for 2009 is to administer and monitor closely a Performance Management Programme to ensure that operating companies maintain minimum performance levels jointly agreed between the GSM operators, consumer representatives and NCC that are consistent with world class standards. This will take the form of monthly self-reporting on a limited set of critical performance metrics."

NEC pushes device management

NEC has made its NC7000-DM device management software available internationally, reports JCNnetwork.

NC7000-DM software is capable of providing telecommunication carriers throughout the world with a means to remotely control and update the embedded software of mobile devices, ensure data security and diagnose faulty device conditions.

As mobile phones and portable devices have become more popular, telecom carriers have become more focused on providing integrated and efficient device management systems.
