centre in Derby, writes the Times.

The centre currently employs 659 staff whose work will be transferred to various existing Barclaycard customer service centres, in November.

In addition, Barclaycard says opportunities exist at a number of its sites around the UK for those wishing to relocate.

According to Contact-Centres, the lender is promising comprehensive redundancy terms plus a programme of tailored career advice and support to all affected staff.

Barclaycard operations director, Paula Gowland, said: “Our proposal to cease operations in Derby was a tough decision to make.”

“The decision takes into account the interests of all our customers. Barclaycard has an existing integrated and scaleable customer service operation which will provide Egg cardholders with a high quality service going forward without the additional capacity provided by the Derby operation,” she said.
