Barloworld Robor, one of SA`s largest steel tube and pipe manufacturers and distributors, has chosen Cognos ReportNet as its standard enterprise reporting tool. The Barloworld subsidiary, a long-time Cognos customer, is the first South African company to buy and roll-out the ReportNet Web-based enterprise query and reporting tool.
Barloworld Robor, with the help of Cognos business partner Sunstone Business Solutions, will roll the tool out to 50 users across all of its business areas, including sales and marketing, finance, logistics, and production.
Business decision-makers at Barloworld Robor will use ReportNet to pull key performance information residing on Microsoft SQL and Oracle databases. Cognos ReportNet will allow Barloworld Robor to create a true self-service Web-based reporting environment for its business decision-makers, enabling the company to consolidate all business intelligence content in a single location and giving it the ability to create complex business reports in a matter of minutes.
Julian Tuffrey, business intelligence analyst at Barloworld Robor, says: "We have already enjoyed great success with our existing investment in Cognos software, including PowerPlay Enterprise Server, Cognos Query, Impromptu Web Reports and Metrics Manager.
"Cognos ReportNet gives us the opportunity to take business intelligence to a new level by offering all our BI users, novice to advanced, a complete Web-based query and reporting solution covering their day-to-day needs as well as key performance information."
Barloworld Robor chose Cognos ReportNet for its scalability, easy-to-use Web-based query and reporting, and extensive language support, says Tuffrey. ReportNet`s scalability and flexible licensing model provides Barloworld Robor with an affordable business intelligence infrastructure that it can grow in line with the growth of its data and business intelligence user community, he adds.
Enhancements to the Cognos Connection Web portal will allow Robor to consolidate new and existing business intelligence content into a single portal that can be personalised for each user. ReportNet`s flexible security model will allow Barloworld Robor to integrate existing Cognos Series 7 security with its ongoing Microsoft Active Directory initiatives.
Sunstone Business Solutions MD Graham Williams notes: " Barloworld Robor is a progressive user of technology and wanted to drive as much return as possible out of its investment in Cognos ReportNet. Based on the smooth implementation of ReportNet at Barloworld Robor so far, and the benefits the customer is enjoying from the product, we see strong potential for ReportNet in the South African market."
"Global companies such as Barloworld Robor are turning to Cognos ReportNet to drive an enterprise standard for reporting in their businesses. Cognos ReportNet delivers the promise of corporate performance management, bringing a fully integrated, all-in-one-reporting standard to large organisations," says Alminda Brundyn, product manager at Cognos South Africa.
