On 14 August, the Wanderer's Club in Illovo host to a Web 2.0 conference, focusing on how to leverage the Internet for effective marketing.
The conference, entitled "Advancing Web 2.0 for Traditional Media," will feature speakers such as Arthur Goldstuck, MD of World Wide Worx, and Matthew Buckland, general manager M&G online.
Nigel Brown, general manager of Classic Events, who is organising the event, says the motivation behind this conference was that many magazines and other print publications have Web sites, but they are fairly basic, supplying only their rate card, subscription offers and pictures of current and previous covers.
"The focus of the day is how to monetise these sites," he explains, "The online version ideally needs to differ from the printed title, and there is so much a publisher could do with it."
He believes the online version of magazines will, in future, feature video and audio clips, copies of interviews, and blogs and forums.
Chairing the event will be Donald Liphoko, director of The Media Shop. Goldstuck will be offering a discussion on the state of online advertising in SA. There will also be a talk on how to drive traffic to your site as well as several case studies from AtPlay, M&G online and Blueworld.
Brown says "We feel that each [of the speakers] are leaders in their fields."
The conference is aimed at magazine publishers but in addition, Brown expects newspaper publishers, a number of broadcasters in television, radio and production companies running programme sites and corporates who have in-house communications and are looking to develop their offerings.
