Bytes Technology Group (Bytes), a wholly owned subsidiary of the JSE-listed Altron Group, today announced the appointment of Johan Basson as the new Chief Executive Officer of Bytes Document Solutions (BDS) with immediate effect. BDS is the largest Xerox distributor in the world and the biggest contributor to Bytes with revenues in excess of R1.8 billion.

Basson joined BDS in 2001, where he excelled in various key financial positions, including that of Financial Director, a position he held prior to his appointment as CEO. With more than 20 years' of financial and operational management experience, Basson's proven business acumen and in-depth knowledge of the document solutions industry will stand him in good stead as he takes over the reins as leader of BDS. Basson holds a B Com Honours degree in Financial Management from the University of Johannesburg where he also lectured before entering the private sector.

In his new position, Basson will be expected to actively drive the transition of BDS from a product to a services-led business. Commenting on his appointment, Basson said: "Throughout Africa, our customers expect delivery of the best products, solutions and services to help them improve their document workflows and business processes. They also expect this to happen at a faster pace and at a lower cost than before. At BDS, we plan to rise to this challenge and deliver on our promises."

According to Basson, BDS has a significant advantage within the industry as the authorised distributor of Xerox as well as being part of Bytes and the greater Altron Group. "Through our collaboration with them, we are able to tap into international best practices in order to adapt to changing customer needs and to provide a total IT solution of which managed print services is an important component," said Basson.

Rob Abraham, Chief Executive Officer of Bytes Technology Group, said he is delighted with the appointment of Basson as the CEO of BDS. "Having worked closely with Johan for over 10 years during my tenure at BDS, I have no doubt that his business acumen and experienced approach will be to the benefit of all our customers in terms of excellent service delivery while improving profitable growth."
