Following excellent local success with its add-on Software AG products, Bateleur Software Solutions has entered the global arena with the appointment of its first international distribution agent.
In a bilateral agreement, director Sam Selmer-Olsen has appointed UK-based Blenheim Software International Ltd to represent Bateleur Software Solutions in the UK and Holland. In return, Bateleur will market and support Blenheim`s Peek Adabas file browser and editor software utility in SA.
Selmer-Olsen presented the company`s product range at Software AG`s Very Large Natural User Group Conference in the UK earlier this month. In addition to bringing Blenheim Software and Bateleur together, the conference generated extensive interest in Bateleur`s products.
"We are already following up leads with many very large organisations from countries such as Germany, Denmark, the UK and Poland," he says. "The conference, which includes the Very Large Database Management Special Interest Group, presented the ideal opportunity to interface with our target market. Extremely large databases present particular challenges which make standard programming techniques, utilities and facilities difficult.
"It was an honour to present at a conference of this calibre and I believe our products offer true value, as they solve very real problems."
Bateleur Software Solutions` South African client base includes the Government Pension Fund, the Department of Home Affairs, Information Trust Corporation, SABC, Saambou and Mutual and Federal.
The products presented by Selmer-Olsen at the conference included Adasplit, Adasort, ZipDitto and Estrip. Adasplit is an archiving utility which allows very large database users to remove data from their files for archive purposes at very high speed. A government department used Adasplit to remove about 80 million Adabas records from three related files containing 180 million records. Previous attempts to do this had been unsuccessful, and the Natural code developed to do it threatened to run for many months of solid processing time. Adasplit accomplished the task in less than 30 hours.
Adasort is a sequencing utility which allows high-volume users to sort their Adabas files into an agreeable descriptor sequence for improvement of batch processing times. Using Adasort to sequence 16 major files before month-end, a large local bank was able to reduce its batch window for month-end processing by nearly 60%.
Zip utility software for the Adabas/Natural environment, ZipDitto achieves high rates of compression in impressively short time frames. One of SA`s leading financial services firms cut the transmission time for a file between Johannesburg and Cape Town from 30 hours to three hours and 20 minutes with ZipDitto.
Estrip is an extender for Adastrip, a data extraction utility for Adabas C. It enables users to strip data from related parent/child file relationships. Further add-ons include options for creating extracts for reporting purposes, data warehouse, operational data store, archive or faster production processing.
"Bateleur is already partnering with market leaders such as Treehouse and CCA," Selmer-Olsen says. "We are looking forward to establishing close working relationships with other industry leaders and developing a strong presence for our products in global markets."
