Wireless LANs are an effective add-on network strategy for all businesses, whether they are large multi-site corporations or small-to-medium businesses. Advances in portable computers make them virtually equivalent in capability to desktop systems while the increased productivity that mobility provides has become extremely important to most corporations and their growing mobile workforce.
At the same time, applications and resources available on corporate, enterprise and educational networks have increased exponentially. Internet access, email, data exchange, client-server applications, intranets and now extranets put global resources at the fingertips of all PC users.
Wireless networking offers a new dimension in productivity for PC users, enabling true portability through continuous, non-stop network access. Continuous connectivity enables continuous productivity and the BayStack 600 Series wireless LAN products are revolutionising the way we work.
The BayStack 600 Series Wireless LAN products include sophisticated software and utilities to make installation, use and management of the wireless network a seamless extension to the existing wired network.
PC Cards offer virtual, plug-and-play installation on end-user PCs, access points can be plugged into any 10BASE -T or 10BASE-2 LAN port and site survey utilities assist users in mapping wireless coverage areas. The access points are SNMP manageable and include Java utilities for management of security and wireless configuration options.
The BayStack 600 series are available in two versions, the BayStack 650 and 660 wireless LAN products. Each comprises a BayStack wireless access point and PC Card. The Access Points are a wireless-to-wired bridge/hub that attaches to the wired LAN backbone. It enables multiple laptop computers which are equipped with the accompanying BayStack Wireless PC Cards to access the network wirelessly and seamlessly.
All of the BayStack 600 Series Wireless LAN products comply with the 802.11 industry standard. The BayStack 650 wireless LAN products use 2.4 GHz Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) radio type and they support between 10 and 15 mobile users per access point. They have a typical wireless coverage range of up to 225 feet in an office environment and 1 000 feet in an open environment such as warehouses or exhibit halls.
The BayStack 660 Wireless LAN products use a 2.4 GHz Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) radio type operating at 2 Mbps - the highest data rate of the 802.11 standard. The BayStack 660 access point supports between 15 and 20 mobile users and has a typical wireless coverage range of 200 to 300 feet in an office environment and up to 2 000 feet in an open environment.
